Directory

Welcome to the ICASC directory of national and international art for social change organizations, networks, educational programs and opportunities.

This is a curated list focusing on art for social change – by no means a comprehensive community arts listing.
If you are looking for more complete Canadian community arts listings, we highly recommend ArtBridges’ directory at http://artbridges.ca/community/community_map.

This is a living resource. We will be updating and revising it as new information becomes available. You can filter this list by selecting from the various options below.

4elements Living Arts

4elements Living Arts (4e) is community engaged arts organization based on Mnidoo Mnising | Manitoulin Island in Northeastern Ontario. Formed in 2002, we have a focus on programs that integrate the arts, environmental and land-based issues through a place-based and community-based approach. To imagine and create a sustainable way forward, creativity and connection to the land are needed more than ever. 4e is contributing to this much-needed cultural shift through land-based engagements - creating space for people to engage in high-quality, creative, interdisciplinary, and experiential programs on the land. We work with community members to re-learn the land, learn about ourselves and the complexity of ecosystems, and build relationships. We collaborate with a range of organizations including cycling groups, First Nations youth groups, educational institutes, and Townships. Our much-loved programs include our River School program, Outside the Box, and Elemental Festival. We also offer training for Artist Educators and a new Land Art Institute program. Residencies for artists, artist-educators, facilitators, and interdisciplinary researchers are available.

4e is funded through the Ontario Arts Council, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, the Ministry of Recreation, Culture and Sport.

Africa Centre

The Africa Centre is both a physical entity and ongoing philosophical journey that explores how Pan-African cultural practice can be a catalyst for social change. We believe that creativity and innovation are powerful tools that: manifest what otherwise would only sit in our imaginations; release new ideas and make them freely accessible; and ensure that people living on this soil can define for themselves what is possible and what their reality looks like. These beliefs are brought to life through a range of programmes in various countries as well as online. Our current programmes – Artists in Residency, Badilisha Poetry X-Change, Everyday African Urbanism, Infecting The City, Talking Heads, and WikiAfrica all celebrate and explore what it means to be in Africa today and what is conceivable for 21st-century Africans.
