The environment, consumerism and social justice are at the heart of Judith Marcuse’s thrilling interdisciplinary show EARTH=home, which returns to Vancouver following an extensive tour across Canada.

Entertaining, provocative and fast-paced, the work is a fable for our times, incorporating music, theatre, dance and multimedia technology to express young peoples’ thoughts and feelings about the state of our planet and where we are taking it. Each performance is followed by a facilitated “talk-back,” allowing in-depth discussion of the environmental and social justice issues in play. Judith Marcuse Projects (JMP), established in 1979, has a rich history of creation and performance in Canada and abroad. The two earlier works in the youth-oriented trilogy that concludes with EARTH=home, were ICE: beyond cool (1997), which explored teen suicide and FIRE...where there’s smoke (2001), which confronted the impact of violence in the lives of young people. JMP has recently entered into a partnership with Vancouver’s Simon Fraser University to create the International Centre of Art for Social Change (ICASC). This new centre will be an international hub for communication, training and research in this quickly-developing field.
